Jakarta Asked to Secure Food Supply and Water Services Amid Dry Season

The Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission B member M. Taufik Zoelkifli (MTZ) has urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to anticipate the impact of the dry season by ensuring that food supplies and clean water services remain secure.

MTZ said the commission has asked the Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency to anticipate potential disruptions to food availability and price stability during the dry season.

"We asked how the dry season could affect food availability in Jakarta, particularly staple commodities such as rice, meat, eggs, and other essentials. If there are any impacts, immediate measures must be taken to ensure food supplies remain sufficient and prices stay stable," he said on Monday (8/3).

In addition to food security, MTZ also highlighted the availability of clean water. He encouraged PAM Jaya to continue expanding its piped water network to help achieve the city's target of 100 percent service coverage by 2029.

According to MTZ, there have been no reports so far of residents experiencing difficulties accessing clean water due to the dry season. He said this was likely because the dry season has only recently begun.

"There have been no significant reports of residents facing water shortages from household wells," he added.

MTZ also praised PAM Jaya's free water tank program, saying it has been particularly helpful for residents living in low-pressure supply areas that still experience limited water access.

"The free water tank program has been very helpful. However, PAM Jaya also needs to continue expanding the piped water network and increase the number of free water tanks available for residents who need them," he noted.

He also reminded the Jakarta Provincial Government to continue maintaining green open spaces (RTH) and city parks throughout the dry season to prevent them from drying out.

"From an environmental perspective, the trees and parks that have been well maintained across Jakarta must continue to be cared for during the dry season so they do not dry out," he said.
